Happy Monday! This week’s earworms come from the Parisian electronic duo Polo & Pan

In 2020 alone, Polo & Pan has amassed over 280 million streams from all around the world. This is not too surprising (the New Yorker calls them funky, suave, enchanting, and we agree). Their music takes inspiration from a blend of global inspiration, which is why we were more than happy when they agreed to make our office at Fräulein a mixtape. We knew they would introduce us to some new gems and genres. This playlist is an ideal summer vibe: think a little bit of bossa nova, placed within a dreamy, hazy Sofia Coppola beach film.

“We have always been collectors of musical gems, and what we do is try to bring these references into a more modern format through our electronic production. We consider ourselves more as archeologists of musical objects that fascinate us than as pure creators per se. Our mission is to dig, extract, process and rehash beautiful musical gems that are in danger of being lost or forgotten. This playlist is our treasure box of inspirations.”

Fräulein asked the three most formative songs from their playlist:

Les Baxter — The Ancient Galleon

Les is one of our main inspirations. The music he produced in the 50s defines the style of Exotica. We are fascinated by his capacity to make classical music meet exotic instruments and grooves, all at the service of the golden era of Hollywood.

Meridian Brothers — Guaracha U.F.O.

This song contains everything we love about South American music. The groovy lush exotic beat, the psychedelic leads often found in cumbia, the amazing vocals… We collaborated with this band on our track Mexicali.

Alessi Brothers — Seabird

Vocal bliss all throughout the track. This is one of our favorite Italian gems. The production of the drums and strings is quite surprising, but it works beautifully on this perfect summer track.

Following their first album’s success, they have now released a new mixtape entitled Home Sweet Home, which is available for streaming here.

Below, the super stylish video for their single Feel Good. Enjoy!
